WINONA, Minn. - The Saint Mary's men's tennis team (2-2) had a busy first match back, hosting both Martin Luther College (0-1) and Lawrence University (1-1). The Cardinals cruised to a 6-1 victory over Martin Luther in their opener but came up just short in a 4-3 loss to Lawrence in the second match.
Head coach
Jeff Halberg expressed pride in his team's efforts, saying, "I honestly haven't been prouder of a team in a losing effort." Despite battling through illnesses, the team's three starters pushed through, and the Cardinals had to make last-minute adjustments to the lineup.
In the first match, the Cardinals lost only one singles and one doubles match.
Caden Boyer,
Tucker Stene,
Gavin Pratt, and
Zak Farley each won both of their singles matches on the day.
The Cardinals fell just short, losing the final doubles point in the match against Lawrence.
