DULUTH, Minn. - On Friday, the Saint Mary's men's hockey team hit the road, heading to Duluth to face St. Scholastica in their weekend series. The Cardinals netted their only goal by
Cooper Smyl in the second period on a power-play.

Despite firing 49 shots on goal, they couldn't overcome St. Scholastica's 31 shots and five goals.
In the first period, the Cardinals were active in the offensive zone, firing multiple shots on goal, including four from
Marc Fletemeyer and three from Smyl. The Cardinals made a strong push and had three power-play opportunities but they couldn't capitalize on their chances. The period ended with St. Scholastica took a 1-0 lead, scoring with 58 seconds left.
The team broke through with a power-play goal by
Cooper Smyl at 02:15, assisted by Fletemeyer and
Ryan Berglund, narrowing the gap to 2-1 before St. Scholastica added another goal at 01:40 to end the second period with a 3-1 lead.
Joona Juntunen and
Colin Tushie were active on the offensive end, contributing multiple shot attempts, though they were unable to convert. The Cardinals saw two goals against them at 4:04 and again at 1:33 and felt the win becoming out of reach.Â
The Saints took the commanding win over the Cardinals in night one of their two-day series in Duluth.
The team will look to bounce back tomorrow with a 2 p.m. game back at Mars Lakeview Arena.
