ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - The Saint Mary's women's hockey team (14-7) traveled to the cities on a snowy afternoon, aiming to split the series with Bethel University (10-10-1). They found success on the road, securing a 3-1 bounce-back victory.
Allie Urlaub stood out with two points from one goal and one assist, including a game-winning goal.
Kas Kingston contributed significantly with two goals, including a power-play goal, and had two blocks.
Celeste Rimstad, in goal, recorded 28 saves with only one goal allowed in her appearance.
In the first period, the Cardinals demonstrated strong defensive efforts with
Celeste Rimstad making several key saves. The Cardinals had a power play opportunity starting at 6:20 due to a hooking penalty by the Royals but the Cardinals were unable to convert, with multiple shots on goal, keeping the score tied at 0-0 by the end of the period.
The Cardinals capitalized on a power play early in the second period, with Kingston scoring at 14:15, assisted by
Celia Midtbo and Urlaub. The momentum continued as Urlaub found the net again at 11:17, assisted by
Reese Heitzman and
Sophia Paduano. Kingston scored once more at 7:29, assisted by
Mikayla Vasilevich and Heitzman, bringing the score to 3-0 in favor of the Cardinals by the end of the period.
Rimstad was steadfast in goal, making several crucial saves in the third period. The game concluded with Bethel scoring at 00:03, narrowing the gap, but the Cardinals lead was too much for the Royals as they would come away with a victory 3-1!
The Cardinals have split their conference series with the Royals this weekend.
The team will be back in action Friday, February 14th hosting St. Olaf at 7 p.m.
