Track and Field Kicks Off 2025 Outdoor Season in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Cardinals Track and Field team is back in action, kicking off their outdoor season with an impressive start down in St. Louis. 
 
Four members of the distance team competed at the high caliber Washington University Distance Carnival, amongst nearly a thousand competitors from across the nation.
 
Isaiah Fitzgerald was the first Cardinal to race. Toughing though the blaring heat and wind, he debuted in the 10,000m race with a time of 34:09.93 and an impressive final kick past a number of competitors in his heat. 
 
Kendra Klobe raced immediately after, braving through the 25 laps to finish her 10,000m in a new personal best time of 42:11.80.
 
The remaining two competitors made their mark in the 5,000m race later in the day. Grant Schneider worked his way up in his heat, picking off a number of competitors along the way and finishing in 16:35.65. 
 
Mya Slavin was the final competitor to race for the distance team. In her first ever collegiate Track & Field 5k, she battled amongst a fierce field of competitors to finish in 18:52.12.
 
Other members of the Track and Field team competed at the Speed and Power Invitational at St. Louis University. 
 
Xara Gin rose above the field of competitors to finish third in the pole vault with a vault of 3.20m, moving up to third in school history. 
 
On the track, Oliver Adamson opened in the 100m dash in 11.17 seconds. Ryan Cramer was just behind in 11.24s. A couple Cardinals also raced the 200m dash, with Brady Johnson boasting a new personal best of 22.70s.
 
Ryan Cramer, in his first outdoor collegiate 200m, raced a time of 22.51 and moved into the 10th spot on the SMU all-time list.
 
Cardinal throwers also made their mark in the field. 
 
Morgan Wallendal scored in two events: the hammer throw (41.60m, fifth) and the shot put (11.39m, fourth). Anna Becker took third in the hammer throw, with a throw of 42.70m. 
 
Erica Wright also had success, with a new personal best throw of 10.94m in the shot put and took seventh place overall. Sydney Jackman took 3rd in the shot, with a launch of 11.66m.
 
The Cardinals will return to the track again tomorrow, with a number of athletes competing at the Billiken Invitational hosted by St. Louis University which begins at 11:30 a.m.
