Baseball Showed Strong Hitting but Couldn’t Capitalize in Loss to Concordia

WINTER HAVEN, Florida - The Saint Mary's Cardinal baseball team (1-4) fell to the Concordia Chicago Cougars (4-5) 4-2 in a neutral-site matchup held at Chain of Lakes Stadium in Winter Haven, Florida on Thursday morning. Saint Mary's tallied nine hits and two errors, while Concordia Chicago recorded seven hits and one error.
 
Brinton Anderson made a strong impact for the Cardinals, recording three hits in four at-bats with a run scored, finishing with an OPS of 1.500. Sam Knickerbocker also stood out by going two-for-three at the plate, including a double, contributing to an OPS of 1.667. 
 
On the mound, Eric Stomberg pitched effectively over five innings, allowing just two hits and one earned run while striking out five. 
 
In the second inning, the Cardinals scored the first run of the game as Anderson singled to left field and advanced to third after Knickerbocker doubled. Devin Coyle followed with a single up the middle, driving in Anderson to give the team an early 1-0 lead.
 
During the fifth inning, Concordia Chicago leveled the score with a home run to left field, marking the first run for the visiting team and tying the game at 1-1.
 
The Cardinals fought back in the eighth inning. Riley Bauman walked and advanced to second on Anderson's single. Will Boeckman then singled, and Bauman scored on a throwing error, making the score 3-2 in favor of Concordia Chicago.
 
In the ninth inning, Concordia Chicago extended their lead finalizing the score at 4-2. The Cardinals could not overcome the deficit in their final at-bat. 
 
The team is aiming to bounce back after losing their last three games and is focused on tomorrow's double-header against Roger Williams, starting at 3:45 p.m. EST.
