Cardinals Shine Under the Lights, Complete Sweep

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Despite a late night, the Saint Mary's baseball team (15-12) came through and completed the sweep over the Hamline Pipers (5-21) on the road. The Cardinals secured their 100th win over the Pipers, taking game one 6-4 and following it up with an 11-4 victory under the lights in game two.

GAME ONE

Connor Tulley was effective on the mound, pitching a little over six innings over two appearances, allowing only two hits and no runs, and striking out four.

The Cardinals took an early lead in the first inning when Ryan Csida doubled and eventually scored on a single by Brinton Anderson. The Pipers quickly responded in the bottom of the first tying the game at 1-1.

In the second inning, Hamline took control with a three-run rally but the Cardinals cut into the lead in the third inning, after the first inning duo, Csida's aggressive baserunning led to a sacrifice fly from Anderson, bringing the score to 4-2.

Saint Mary's continued to chip away at the deficit in the fourth inning. Stephen Golden scored on a double by Josh Costello, narrowing Hamline's lead to 4-3.

The Cardinals maintained pressure in the sixth inning with Rylie Bauman scoring on Golden's single, tying the game at four runs each.

The one extra inning proved decisive for the Cardinals. After Daniel Sherman and Alex Hanneman reached base, Gavan Schulte delivered a crucial two-RBI double, giving Saint Mary's a 6-4 lead. Hamline was unable to score in their half of the eighth, securing a 6-4 victory for the Cardinals.

GAME TWO

Csida kept things rolling in game two with a remarkable OPS of 2.083, scoring two runs and driving in two more.

On the mound, Eric Stomberg delivered a solid pitching performance, securing the win with six innings pitched, allowing just one earned run that included three strikeouts and 54 of his 89 pitches were strikes.

Saint Mary's opened the scoring in the first inning with Golden's RBI double, bringing in Sam Knickerbocker after his single, giving them a 1-0 lead. They extended their advantage, with Schulte's single followed by Patrick Schork's double. Costello reached first on an error, allowing Schulte to score, pushing the lead to 4-1 after the second inning.

The third inning saw the Cardinals surge further ahead.

Bauman doubled and was driven in by Golden's single. Schork and Csida added RBIs, with Csida scoring on Knickerbocker's groundout, bringing the score to 9-1 by the end of the third inning.

In the sixth, Csida doubled and scored on Bauman's sacrifice fly, increasing the lead to 10-1.

The Cardinals kept raising their lead, getting to a total of 11 runs.

Although Hamline mounted a three-run rally in the bottom of the seventh, the Cardinals held on to claim an 11-4 win. This win marked the team's season best seven doubles in one game!

The Cardinals are set to hit the road again this Tuesday, April 15, as they travel to Duluth to face Saint Scholastica in a doubleheader starting at 2:30 p.m.
