WINONA, Minn. - In their only home meet of the season, the Saint Mary's track and field team made it count Saturday afternoon with a season best nine Cardinals claiming first place finishes. The team enjoyed ideal conditions for both competition and celebrating their seniors and graduating student-athletes.
The action kicked off with
Katherine Goergen making her steeplechase debut, where she clocked in at 13:25.05—good for a second-place finish and a great start to the day.
The 1500 meters saw several standout performances, beginning with
Tessa McMahon, who made her collegiate track debut in style, finishing eighth with a time of 5:14.70. Hot on her heels was Kendra Schneider in ninth, who ran a personal-best 5:17.25.
Abbie Meyer followed in tenth with a new personal record of 5:22.54.
On the men's side,
Grant Schneider ran a new personal best of 4:11.07 to earn fourth place, while Evan Fitzgerald surged to a season-best 4:38.10, showing off a powerful final kick.
In the 400-meter dash,
Lola Schwinghamer placed sixth in 1:07.01, while
Eddie Paton powered his way to a third-place finish with a new personal record of 51.04 seconds.
The momentum continued into the 800 meters, where
Mya Slavin delivered a standout performance. She not only won the race but also recorded a huge personal best of 2:20.94—moving her up to sixth on the program's all-time list.Â
On the men's side,
Goi Ruei (2:00.12) and
Zander Olmschenk (2:02.27) grabbed second and third respectively, each earning new personal bests.
Freshman standout
Zari Young shined in the sprints, capturing two first-place finishes—winning the 100m in 12.11 and following it up with a 200m victory in 25.86.
In field events, the Cardinals secured several first-place finishes.
Morgan Wallendal delivered a season-best throw of 46.69 meters in the hammer throw, earning her a first-place finish in the event.
Xara Gin earned her first career victory in the women's high jump, clearing 1.48 meters to take first place.
Antonio Cisewski set a new personal record in the long jump, leaping 6.60 meters to secure first place.
Sydney Jackman claimed first place in the women's shot put with a big personal-best throw of 12.68 meters, with
Morgan Wallendal finishing right behind her in second.
The meet concluded with an exciting 4x400 relay that delivered a season-best time of 4:30.55.Â
All in all, it was a day filled with fast times, memorable performances, and the kind of team spirit that makes track and field so special.Â
The Cardinals will be back in action soon, competing in La Crosse next Thursday, April 17th.
