Slavin Claims Two First-Place Finishes with Multiple Personal Bests Set

DECORAH, IOWA - The Cardinal track and field team was back in action today in the chilly conditions at Luther College but that did not stop several new personal bests that were set across the board.

To start the meet, the men's 4x100m relay team—Brady Johnson, Ryan Cramer, Jinwoo Jung, and Oliver Adamson—delivered an impressive performance, finishing in second place with a time of 43.21 seconds, just half a second shy of the title. The women's team also competed in this relay, with Xara Gin, McKenzie Munson, Melissa Torres, and Samantha Munson securing third place with a time of 50.76 seconds.

Mya Slavin of the women's distance team claimed the first win of the day, claiming the title in the women's 1500m with a time of 4:53.05, also moving her into the third all-time spot in history for the SMU women. Slavin later nabbed another first place finish in the 800m, with a personal best time of 2:23.18s. 
 
Grant Schneider also left his mark on the competition, completing his section of the 1500m in 4:15.57 and claiming 11th place in a field of over 30 competitors. 

In the 400m, several men achieved new personal bests, including Brady Johnson with a time of 51.65 seconds (fourth), Goi Rui at 51.76 seconds (sixth), Zander Olmshenk with a 54.12-second finish (18th), and Nathan Folkert, who clocked in at 61.30 seconds (25th).

The cardinals dominated the 100m dash today, with Ryan Cramer taking second with a 11.11s finish (moving him to 8th in school history), barely missing the win by only one hundredth of a second. 
 
Oliver Adamson was right behind him in third, finishing in 11.26s. Ben Kritsberg was sixth with a time of 11.45s. Kijuan Hardy also boasted a new personal best, stopping the clock in 12.06s. 
 
The women also proved fierce in this event, with Zari Young taking second place with a time of 12.58s - claiming fifth all time in school history - and Samantha Munson third in 12.71s - a new personal best. 
 
Later in the meet, Cramer, Adamson, and Kritsberg returned for the 200m dash claiming second (22.69s), fourth (22.79s), and 10th (23.56s), respectively. Samantha Munson also took third in the women's 200m dash, crossing the finish line in 26.56s. 
 
Off the track, Gin tied her personal best in the pole vault, clearing 3.20m and taking fourth place. In the triple jump, Ameryn Dostal finished fifth with a hop, skip, and jump of 10.33m. Nathan Longfors took sixth in the triple jump and fifth in the long jump, with jumps of 12.07m and 6.07m (PR) respectively. Antonio Cisewski was right behind him, finishing sixth in the long jump with 6.06m. 
 
In the hammer throw, Anna Becker lurched the hammer 43.65m, enough to land her third place. Morgan Wallendal took seventh with a throw of 41.43m. Wallendal also took seventh in the discus throw with her toss of 37.13m. Casen Fritz took sixth for the men with his best throw of 43.20m. 
 
Henry Gathje took fourth in the javelin throw, with his best throw putting the javelin at 44.23m. In the shot put, Sydney Jackman claimed fourth place with a lurch of 12.08m. 
 
Next weekend the Cardinals aim to host their first and only home meet of the season at the Saint Mary's Outdoor Complex on Saturday, April 12th.
