Cardinals Wrap Up Day One of MIAC Outdoor Championships

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The 2025 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships kicked off Friday with an exciting afternoon of preliminary and final events at Macalester College.

Several Cardinals made a strong impact on day one, earning qualifying marks that secured their spots in tomorrow's finals on the concluding day of competition.

Currently, the Saint Mary's men's track and field team sits in 10th place with two points in the highly competitive meet, while the women's team holds eighth place with 12 points.

Senior Oliver Adamson opened the meet by qualifying for tomorrow's 200m finals with a season-best time of 22 seconds, placing ninth overall. Right behind him was freshman Ryan Cramer, who narrowly missed the finals but recorded a personal best of 22.32.

In the women's sprints, freshman Zari Young and junior Samantha Munson both qualified for the finals in the 100m and 200m events.

Young clocked a 12.12 in the 100m to place second overall and secured the final qualifying spot in the 200m with a 25.84. Munson, who achieved personal bests in both events, ran a 12.50 in the 100m to finish ninth and a 25.45 in the 200m for sixth overall.

In the distance events, freshman Mya Slavin earned a sixth-place finish in the 1500m, setting a new personal best with a time of 4:48.63. Meanwhile, senior Kendra Schneider closed out the day with a personal best of 41:45.08 in the 10,000m.

Off the track, freshman Xara Gin took sixth place in the women's pole vault with a mark of 3.20 meters.

Senior Morgan Wallendal led the Cardinal women in the shot put, earning a fourth-place finish with a season-best throw of 12.30 meters.

Saint John's leads the men's team standings with 66.5 points, followed by Bethel in second with 49 points. On the women's side, St. Olaf holds a ten-point advantage over second-place Concordia, 61-51, heading into the final day of competition. 

The Cardinals have one more day to make their move.

The competition will continue tomorrow at noon for day two of the MIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Macalester.
