Using his speed, Caleb Gilbert scored the Cardinals lone goal on his only shot.
Ryan Horlock, in goal, recorded three saves while facing 13 shots and allowing just one goal.
The first half commenced with Saint Mary's and Hamline locked in a defensive struggle. The Cardinals goalkeeper, Horlock, made a notable save in the 19th minute to keep the game scoreless following a shot from Hamline's Drew Axel.
The Cardinals created opportunities, including a shot by Thomas Laaksonen in the 25th minute, but it was saved by the Pipers goalkeeper.
The half concluded with a 0-0 tie, with both teams looking to break the deadlock in the next half.
The second half opened with the Cardinals capitalizing on a crucial moment when Gilbert scored in the 62nd minute, assisted by Seth Konik who chipped in over the Piper backline for Gilbert to chase down. This goal shifted momentum as the Cardinals maintained pressure and created opportunities.
However, the Pipers equalized in the 79th minute with a goal leveling the score at 1-1.
Although the Cardinals looked in control, all further attempts from the team to reclaim the lead came up short as the half concluded with the score tied at 1-1.
