Cardinals Fall in Final Nonconference Matchup

STEVENS POINT, Wis. — In the final nonconference game of the 2025 season, the Saint Mary's women's soccer team (8-2-0, 2-1-0) fell 1-0 to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (5-3-4, 0-0-0) on Sunday afternoon at the Point Soccer Bowl.

The Pointers scored the only goal of the match in the first half, securing the victory despite the Cardinals nine total shots and three shots on goal.

The first half began with the Cardinals pressing forward, earning a corner kick within the first 30 seconds. The Cardinals sustained early pressure, but a series of quick offside calls broke their offensive rhythm.

As the half progressed, the Pointers capitalized on their opportunities, scoring in the 15th minute on a put-back goal to take a 1-0 lead. Looking to equalize, Samantha Munson and Maren Clow tested the Pointers goalkeeper to close out the half.

The second half commenced with both teams vying for control.

The Cardinals applied pressure early on, despite committing several fouls.

Saint Mary's generated offensive opportunities with a series of corner kicks, a total of 10 on the day, which was a season best. Malerie Williams also took a shot late in the half, but the score remained unchanged.

The half ended with the Cardinals still trailing, as the score held at 1-0 in favor of the Pointers.

McKenzie Munson recorded five saves in goal for the Cardinals during the match, facing 12 shots and conceding one goal.

Her sister Samantha Munson led the team with three shots, though none were on target.

The Cardinals now shift their focus to conference play as they aim to build momentum for a postseason run. Their next matchup is at home on Wednesday, October 1st, with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m. against Macalester.
