WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's women's soccer team is off to a perfect 4-0 start and are on fire! The Cardinals secured a decisive 3-0 victory over Lawrence University (1-2-1) on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals dominated the first half, taking a 2-0 lead, and added a third goal in the second half. Their defense held strong, allowing only three shots on goal, while goalkeeper
Anna Peckosh recorded three saves to maintain the shutout.
The Cardinals opened the scoring early in the first half with none other than
Lauryn Skoruppa finding the back of the net right away in the eighth minute, assisted by
Abby Newby. They maintained offensive pressure with multiple shots, culminating in a second goal by
Maren Clow in the 25th minute. Clow's goal was the first of the season. Lawrence attempted to counter, earning several corner kicks and taking shots on goal, but Peckosh kept a clean sheet for the Cardinals.
By the end of the half, Saint Mary's led 2-0, showing strong offensive momentum despite Lawrence's defensive efforts.
The second half began similar to the first with the Cardinals quickly taking control, with Skoruppa scoring a goal in the 61st minute, assisted by
Caleia Heier, pushing their lead to 3-0.
Saint Mary's maintained their defensive stance, with goalkeeper Peckosh saving a critical shot from Sophia Gaus in the 81st minute, ensuring the game ended with a 3-0 advantage for the Cardinals.
It has been a perfect 3-0 home stand for the Cardinals and they are back in action at home on Wednesday, September 9th at 6:30 p.m. against Wartburg.
