WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's men's tennis (4-6) team was swept 7-0 by Bethel (5-1) on Friday evening to jump back into conference play at the Winona Tennis Center.
The Royals claimed all three doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead before securing each of the six singles contests in straight sets.
In doubles play, the Cardinals No. 1 pairing of Gavin Pratt and Michael Johnson fell 6-2 to Carter Sheard and Dylan Magistad. At No. 2, Zak Farley and Kanyon Hicks dropped a 6-0 decision, while Owen Fonder and Paul Havemeier were defeated 6-1 at No. 3.
In singles action, Bethel continued its momentum with straight-set wins across the lineup. Pratt fell 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while Farley was edged 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2. Johnson battled at No. 3, but came up short 6-2, 6-1. Havemeier dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision at No. 4, Hicks was defeated 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5, and Fonder closed out the match at No. 6 with a 6-0, 6-0 setback.
The team will regroup before taking to roadtrip to Madison, Wisconsin to play Edgewood College at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow.
