WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's (5-2) women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to the Bethel Royals (4-0) in conference play on Friday evening at the Winona Tennis Center.
The Royals swept all three doubles matches to seize early momentum and carried that into singles play, claiming six straight-set victories to secure the shutout. The loss moves the Cardinals to 0-2 overall in the conference.
In doubles action, the Cardinals' No. 1 team of Elena Ruzevich and Emily Dondelinger fell 6-1 to Lauryn Douglas and Michaella Sullivan. At No. 2, Olivia Molumby and Harsha Gangasani were defeated 6-0, while Kathryn Stiegel and Aheli Patel dropped a 6-1 decision at No. 3.
Singles play followed a similar script, with Bethel earning straight-set wins across the board. Ruzevich fell 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1, while Dondelinger dropped a 6-0, 6-1 match at No. 2. Molumby was edged 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3. Maddie Jensen battled at No. 4, but came up short 6-1, 6-2. Gangasani fell 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5, and Stiegel rounded out the lineup with a 6-1, 6-4 setback at No. 6.
They prepare for their next matchup at Edgewood College tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.
