OWATONNA, Minn. – Jumping back into conference action, the Saint Mary's men's tennis team fell to St. Olaf, 7–0, Saturday at West Hills Tennis and Fitness Center.
The Cardinals (4-8 overall, 0-3 MIAC) battled throughout the lineup but the Oles (4-4 overall, 3-1 MIAC) claimed all three doubles matches before completing the sweep in singles play.
In doubles action, the No. 1 pairing of Gavin Pratt and Michael Johnson fell 6-2 to Marjan Veldic and Bogdan Vizoli. At No. 2 doubles, Zak Farley and Kanyon Hicks dropped a 6-3 decision to Madden Vanderwerf and Lou Smith, while Paul Havemeier and Owen Fonder were defeated 6-1 by Daniel Meunier and Mason Ramirez in the No. 3 match.
The Oles' carried the momentum into singles play, winning all six matches in straight sets. Pratt fell 6-2, 6-0 to Vizoli at No. 1 singles, while Farley battled at No. 2 before dropping a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Veldic. At No. 3 singles, Johnson was defeated 6-2, 6-0 by Smith.
The Oles also picked up victories at the bottom half of the lineup as Vanderwerf topped Havemeier 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4 singles, Jacob Schultz defeated Hicks 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5, and Cathal Mee closed the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Fonder at No. 6.
Saint Mary's will look to bounce back next week, traveling to Fargo, N.D., to take on the Cobbers on Friday, Mar. 20 at noon.
