MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Saint Mary's women's tennis (5-4-1, 0-4) team dropped a 5-2 decision to Concordia-Moorhead in MIAC action on Friday afternoon.
The Cardinals struck first in doubles play, earning a win at No. 1 as Elena Ruzevich and Emily Dondelinger teamed up for a 6-3 victory. Concordia answered by taking the next two doubles matches to claim a lead heading into singles competition.
In singles play, Saint Mary's picked up one win, coming at No. 1 where Ruzevich earned a victory by opponent retirement after taking the opening set 6-3 and leading in the second.
The Cobbers secured the team victory by winning four of the remaining five singles matches. Dondelinger pushed her opponent to a third-set tiebreak at No. 2 before falling in a tightly contested match, while Kathryn Stiegel also forced a third set at No. 6.
The Cardinals were unable to find additional points as Concordia-Moorhead closed out the 5-2 conference win.
Saint Mary's returns to action as they continue MIAC play in the cities against St. Catherine on Friday, Mar. 27.
