ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Saint Mary's women's tennis (6-7-1, 1-7 MIAC) team dropped a 5-2 decision to conference opponent Macalester (8-6, 3-3 MIAC) Thursday evening at Hayden Tennis Courts.
The Cardinals battled throughout the lineup, highlighted by a pair of singles victories and a strong showing in doubles play, but ultimately came up short against the Scots.
Saint Mary's picked up two wins in singles competition, led by dominant performances in the lower half of the lineup.
Harsha Gangasani delivered a convincing straight-set victory at No. 5 singles, cruising to a 6-2, 6-4 win. Kathryn Stiegel followed suit at No. 6, earning a 6-4, 6-4 decision to account for the Cardinals' two team points.
The rest of the lineup faced tough competition, with Elena Ruzevich (No. 1), Emily Dondelinger (No. 2), Aheli Patel (No. 3), and Taylor DePover (No. 4) each falling in straight sets.
In doubles action, the Cardinals found early success at the top spot. The No. 1 duo of Dondelinger and Ruzevich secured a 7-5 victory to give Saint Mary's momentum.
Macalester responded by taking the remaining two doubles matches. The No. 2 pair of Olivia Molumby and Patel and the No. 3 team of Gangasani and Maddie Jensen were both defeated, allowing the Scots to claim the doubles point.
The Cardinals will look to bounce back as they continue MIAC competition in their next matchup this Saturday for senior day against St. Scholastica for the final home of the season.
