WINONA, Minn. — In a tightly contested battle that came down to the final points, the Saint Mary's women's tennis (6-8-1, 1-8 MIAC) team closed out its home schedule with a 4-3 loss to conference opponent St. Scholastica (4-14, 1-6 MIAC) on Senior Day at the Winona Tennis Center.
With emotions running high in the final home match of the season, the Cardinals fought hard throughout singles play after dropping the doubles point.
Saint Mary's found success at the top of the lineup, as Elena Ruzevich delivered a dominant 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles. Senior Aheli Patel continued with a standout performance with a convincing 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3, while senior Kathryn Stiegel added another point for the Cardinals with a 6-3, 6-0 decision at No. 6.
The match ultimately hinged on a tightly contested three-set battle at No. 4 singles, where Taylor DePover forced a decisive third set before falling in a hard-fought tiebreak.
In doubles play, the Cardinals picked up their lone win at No. 1, where the duo of Ruzevich and Emily Dondelinger earned a 6-3 victory. Despite strong efforts across the lineup, St. Scholastica secured the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3.
Saint Mary's will wrap up its 2026 season on the road Wednesday, April 22, traveling to Hamline University for a 4:00 p.m. conference matchup finale.
