CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The quick turnaround game may have been too quick, as the Saint Mary's men's soccer team (0-6-1, 0-2-0) dropped a heartbreaker, 1-0, at Coe College (5-4-1, 0-0-0) Wednesday night.
It was a relatively even half between the Cardinals and the Kohawks.
The Cardinals had a spurt with Francesco Cardone going one-on-one with the keeper around the 32-minute mark before the speed of Thomas Laaksonen threatened the defense again shortly after.
The teams headed into halftime scoreless.
Coe jumped ahead, 1-0, off a corner kick in the 48th minute before extending the lead to 2-0 in the 69th minute.
Despite outshooting the Kohawks 21-14, the Cardinals were unable to convert their season's best 21 shots into the back of the net.Â

The team will jump back into conference play by hosting St. Scholastica on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 3:30 p.m.
