MENOMONIE, Wis. – It was a beautiful afternoon for some nonconference action for the Saint Mary's men's soccer team (0-7-2). The team played to a 1-1 draw with UW-Stout (3-3-2) Monday afternoon after junior defender Caleb Gilbert tied the game with a penalty kick.
After the Blue Devils took an early lead at the 10th minute mark, the Cardinals kept it an even match with seven shots.
Francesco Cardone had the Cardinals' best look early in the second half with a free kick at the 47th minute. It was nearly out of reach for the Blue Devil goalie.
At the 76th minute, the Cardinals were awarded a penalty kick, drawn by Xander Lebakken; Gilbert sent the goalkeeper the wrong way on the free kick.Â
With just five minutes remaining, goalkeeper Bodie Jacobsen made a crucial save on a one-on-one opportunity with a Blue Devil to keep the game even.
Neither team could pull ahead in the final ten minutes of play.
Jacobsen was exceptional in goal with a career-best eight saves.Â
