INDIANOLA, Iowa --Â The Saint Mary's men's soccer team (0-1-1) battled the heat Saturday afternoon and traveled to Simpson College (1-0-1), falling in the first game of the year, 1-0.
The Storm jumped ahead early, scoring at the 13th-minute mark, a goal that seemed to be the difference maker. The Cardinals went on to take just three shots in the first half as they tried to find their footing.
At the 37th minute, Francesco Cardone had the Cardinals' best look of the game, a lone shot on goal as he looked to even the game.
The second half slowed the Cardinals as they were able to convert just one shot.
Ryan Horlock started in goal for the team, making his season debut with seven saves.
The early pressure kept the Cardinals scoreless.

The Cardinals will regroup and prepare for Loras College on Thursday, Sept. 10, at 2:30 p.m. as they continue their on-the-road stretch.Â
