Last Action: The Cardinals came up empty in their Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader against Saint John's Wednesday. Last Meeting: Despite the efforts of Matt Wilgenbusch (Durango, Iowa) — the sophomore right-hander limited Bethel to just six hits over seven innings — the Cardinals still came out on the short end of the conference decision, as the Royals held off the Cardinals 4-1 in the opening game of their Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader at Winona State's Loughery Field a year ago. The mound was more of a revolving door in the nightcap, as Bethel feasted on Cardinal pitching, collecting six runs on nine hits against six SMU hurlers en route to a sweep-clinching 6-4 victory.

Saint Mary's Cardinal Notes: SMU's 8-7 loss to Saint John's on Wednesday was its sixth one-run loss of the season, and second in the last four games. The Cardinals are now 2-6 in one-run games and 0-3 in extra-inning affairs. SMU's last extra-inning win came on April 26, 2008, when the Cardinals dropped Buena Vista 7-6 in eight innings. … SMU's losses to Saint John's Wednesday extended their conference winless streak to 12 straight. … After getting nine hits from eight different players in Game 1 vs. Luther last Monday, the Cardinals' five Game 1 hits vs. SJU Wednesday came from four different players. … Tyler Kruse (Minneapolis, Minn.) went 4-for-7 in SMU's two games vs. the Johnnies.
