Last Action:
The Cardinals' offense was shut down by Macalester pitching, as the Scots' hurlers fanned 19 SMU batters — including 13 by Game 1 starter James Murray — in a 3-0, 3-0 Macalester sweep Saturday in St. Paul, Minn. … Hamline, meanwhile, heads into today's conference DH on the heels of back-to-back postponements of their scheduled twinbill against Augsburg. The Pipers' last action on the field was last Friday, when Hamline was swept by Bethel 11-0 and 11-2 in Arden Hills, Minn.

Last Meeting: The Cardinals picked up a pair of nail-biting victories over the Pipers a year ago in St. Paul, Minn. The Cardinals failed to score until the top ninth inning of their opener against Hamline, then scored the game-winning run on a one-out, David Krieger single in the top of the 10th to beat the Pipers 2-1 in the opener at Midway Stadium. SMU then rallied from a 4-3 deficit with two runs in the top of the fifth inning to complete the sweep with a 5-4 win.
 
Saint Mary's Cardinal Notes: The Cardinals' two losses to Macalester last Saturday kept SMU winless in conference play and left first-year head coach Nick Winecke still searching for his first MIAC win. … Zach Olberding (Maplewood, Minn.) accounted for both his in SMU's 3-0 Game 1 loss to Macalester.
Olberding, who was 0-for-3 in the nightcap, has now hit safely in 12 of the 15 games he has appeared in. … Andrew Warren (Stillwater, Minn.), meanwhile, failed to collect a hit in that Game 1 loss to Macalester, snapping the sophomore's team-, season- and career-high 11-game hitting streak. … All seven of SMU's hits vs. Macalester were singles. In their past four games, the Cardinals have collected 21 hits — 19 of which have been singles. … Tyler Kruse (Minneapolis, Minn.) became the fourth SMU player to hit his first collegiate home run this season, as the Cardinal senior launched a two-run, second-inning shot in Thursday's Game 2 loss vs. Gustavus. Ryan Archambault (Faribault, Minn. / vs. Augsburg), Olberding (vs. Monmouth), and Curt Swenson (Woodbury, Minn. / vs. Monmouth) are the other three. Olberding and Swenson currently lead the team with two HRs each. … Kruse's  Game 2, 2-RBI effort vs. Gustavus last Thursday was his team-leading third multiple-RBI game of the season. … Kyle Ryan (St. Paul, Minn.), who went 2-for-4 in Game 2 vs. Macalester Saturday, leads the team with eight multiple-hit games. … Olberding leads the team in batting average (.396), slugging percentage (.583) and on-base percentage (.453), while Ryan is second in average (.361) and boasts team-highs in at-bats (61), runs (8), hits (22), and stolen bases (10). … Kruse is the team-leader in extra-base hits (6), while Brandon Haugh (Easton, Minn.) has driven in a team-best 10 runs. …  The Cardinals have stolen 23 bases on 29 attempts this season, while SMU catchers have thrown out 13 of 40 potential base stealers. … Andrew Junker (Lakeland, Minn.) has thrown a team-leading 18.1 innings, while Andy Pass (Prescott, Wis.) is the team leader in strikeouts with 13. … The Cardinals have scored five or more runs in eight of their last 13 games. On the flip side, SMU's shutout losses to Macalester were the second and third time in their last four games that the Cardinals have been shut out. …  The Cardinals' 6-5, eight-inning loss in Game 2 vs. GAC was the second time this season SMU has dropped an extra-inning game. SMU's last extra-inning win came on April 26, 2008, when the Cardinals dropped Buena Vista 7-6 in eight innings.

Hamline Piper Notes: The Pipers' Game 1 loss to Bethel last Friday snapped their four-game winning streak. … Bethel's 11-run outbursts marked the fifth and sixth times this season Hamline has allowed 10 or more runs. … The 11-0 Game 1 loss also the first time this season and the first time in the last 28 games that the Pipers failed to score at least one run. The last time Hamline was shutout was a 6-0 loss to Saint John's April 29, 2008. … Lincoln Hughes leads the team with a .453 batting average, while also boasting a team-best .530 slugging percentage. Dan Kaczrowski — who went 2-for-4 in Game 2 vs. Bethel last Friday — leads the team in at-bats (80), runs (22), hits (28), doubles (5), home runs (3), RBIs (19), total bases (42), walks (10) and stolen bases (10). … Kaczrowski and Andy Powell are the only two Pipers to have started all 21 games this season. … The Pipers boast six pitchers with 10 or more innings pitched, led by Matt Mullendore (33.2). Mullendore also leads the team in strikeouts (26). … As a team, Hamline is batting .297, while opponents are hitting .322.
