Last Action: The Cardinals scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but came up one run short in falling to Hamline 7-6 in the opener of their Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader Tuesday at Max Molock Field. Carleton, however, erupted for five runs in the top of the seventh, then held off a meager SMU seventh-inning rally to beat the Cardinals 7-5. SMU left little doubt in the nightcap, scoring two runs in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings — then erupted for seven, sixth-inning runs en route to a 15-5 Game 2 win.

Olberding shares the multiple-hit games lead with Kyle Ryan (St. Paul, Minn.), while Tyler Kruse (Minneapolis, Minn.) joins Olberding with three multiple-RBI games. …  Andrew Warren (Stillwater, Minn.), who had his team-, season- and career-high 11-game hitting streak snapped in the opener vs. Macalester last Saturday, went 1-for-3 in Game 1 vs. Hamline and has also had a hit in 14 of SMU's 20 games. … Nine of SMU's 11 hits vs. the Pipers were singles. In their past six games, the Cardinals have collected 32 hits — 28 of which have been singles. On the flip side, eight of Hamline's 10 Game 1 hits Tuesday were for extra bases. … Olberding launched his team-leading third home run of the season vs. Hamline. … Kruse became the fourth SMU player to hit his first collegiate home run this season, as the Cardinal senior delivered a two-run, second-inning shot in vs. Gustavus on April 2. SMU's last extra-inning win came on April 26, 2008, when the Cardinals dropped Buena Vista 7-6 in eight innings.
