SUPERIOR, Wis. — It took Saint Mary's University's
Amy Sibik (Onalaska, Wis.) more than two years to record her first collegiate hat trick — a feat she achieved with three goals in a 4-2 triumph over Central-Iowa on Sept. 5.
Sibik didn't have to wait long to record hat trick No. 2 — plus one.
Just eight days removed that her first three-goal game, Sibik scored the Cardinals' first four goals as SMU ran its season-opening winning streak to four straight with a 5-0 nonconference women's soccer victory over UW-Superior Sunday afternoon.
“What can you say? Amy was just unstoppable today,” said SMU coach Eric Zimmerman, whose team has now won its last two games by shutout and has outscored its opponents 15-3 through four games. “She's really become such a great scoring threat for us, and today, she just had the Midas Touch.”
Sibik didn't waste any time getting the Cardinals on the board, scoring her sixth goal of the season just six minutes into the first half. By the time the halftime horn sounded, she had added season goals No. 7 and 8, and then added her ninth of the season 14 minutes into the second half.
Erin Morgan (Appleton, Wis.) netted her first career goal with 11 minutes remaining in regulation to round out the scoring. Caitlyn Cole (Larsen, Wis.) also had a big day for the Cardinals, recording the first three-assist game of her career.
“It was good to see our offense continue to shine,” said Zimmerman, whose team kicks off Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Tuesday, hosting Bethel in a 5 p.m. contest at Ochrymowycz Field. “But we also know that the road is going to get a lot tougher. We're going into (Tuesday's game) with a lot of confidence, but we also know we've got our work cut out for us.
