WINONA, Minn. — Two weeks …

Two ties …

Two wins …

Not too bad.

The Saint Mary's University women's hockey team wrapped up its second straight three-point conference weekend Saturday afternoon, getting a third-period goal from Brittany Therrien (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) to snap a 1-1 tie and lift the Cardinals to a 2-1 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory over Hamline at the SMU Ice Arena.

“It was good to see us bounce back and get a win today,” said Mannor, whose Cardinals had posted their second straight Friday night tie with a 1-1 deadlock against the Pipers at the State Fairgrounds Coliseum in the first game of the teams two-game MIAC series Friday. “We dominated play (on Friday) and had to settle for a tie. Today, we were dominant again, but this time we were able to put a couple pucks in the net and get the victory.”

Stevie Fiek (Rochester, Minn.) picked up her first goal of the season late in the opening period to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead,

The Cardinals held that one-goal lead until the third period, when Hamline's Erin Kastner knotted things up with her third goal of the season just 39 seconds into the final period. SMU quickly answered back, as Therrien picked up a loose puck in front of the Hamline net and beat Piper goalie Amelea Gray high on the glove side.

And a one-goal lead is all SMU goalie Kaye Collier (Hibbing, Minn.) would need, as the sophomore goalie stopped 16 shots — including the last five she faced in the third period — to help seal the Cardinal victory. Gray, meanwhile, was peppered with 36 SMU shots, stopping 34 of them.

The Cardinals, who improve to 2-0-2 in the MIAC and 5-1-2 overall, are now off until Dec. 3, when they play host to St. Catherine in the first of two games against the Wildcats. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at the SMU Ice Arena.
