Saint Mary's Cardinal Notes:
After needing six games to pick up their first win of the season a year ago, SMU won its first game in 2010, getting a complete-game, seven-hit shutout from Andrew Ruf (Chippewa Falls, Wis.) in last Wednesday's 1-0 win over Mayville (N.D.) State. … Wednesday's 1-0 win was SMU's first season-opening win since the Cardinals kicked off the 2005 season with a 3-2 win over Valley City State. … Ruf struck out three and did not walk a batter en route to his first collegiate shutout and complete game. … SMU pitchers walked just one batter in 13 innings vs. Mayville State last Wednesday. … The Cardinals' four runs scored vs. Mayville State all came without the benefit of a hit. SMU's Game 1 run came via a bases-loaded walk, while the Cardinals' three Game 2 runs scored on a first-and-third, double-steal, a groundout wild pitch, and a Mayville error. … Chris Bogie (St. Paul, Minn.) and Andrew Warren (Stillwater, Minn.) each collected two hits in the doubleheader vs. Mayville State to account for four of the team's eight hits. …  Warren also collected SMU's lone extra-base hit, a Game 1 double. … Kyle Servais (Coon Valley, Wis.) picked up his first collegiate hit in his first collegiate at-bat vs. the Comets. … SMU pitchers fanned nine Mayville State batters, while Comet pitchers struck out 10 Cardinal batters. … SMU scored single runs in four different innings vs. Mayville State — the second, third, fifth and seventh. Mayville State, meanwhile, scored three of its four runs in the third inning.
