WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University baseball team makes its first outdoor appearance of the season Thursday, as the Cardinals head across town to take on NCAA Division II Winona State in a nine-inning nonconference contest at Loughrey Field.

The Cardinals picked up a pair of nonconference wins Monday against Indiana University Northwest at the Metrodome. SMU blanked the RedHawks 7-0 in the opener, then needed 10 innings before completing the sweep with a 2-1 triumph. Winona State, meanwhile, closed out its trip to Winter Haven, Fla., with a pair of nine-inning wins, beating Mansfield (Pa.) 13-11 and Wheeling (W.V.) Jesuit, 7-5.

The Cardinals and Warriors have not met since March 30, 2006, when Winona State handed SMU a 5-1 nonconference setback.
