MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University baseball team makes its final trip to the HHH Metrodome Sunday, as the Cardinals — coming off back-to-back wins over Indiana University Northwest on Monday — square off against Loras in a 7 p.m. nonconference doubleheader.

The Cardinals matched NCAA Division II Winona State hit-for-hit and run-for-run for seven-and-a-half innings, but WSU's Seth Mc belted a two-run, eighth-inning home run, snapping a 1-1 tie and lifting the Warriors to a 3-1 nonconference win over SMU Thursday. The Duhawks kicked off their season in Auburndale, Fla., going 1-2 with five games cancelled due to rain. Loras then dropped its second straight on Wednesday, falling to Clarke 13-5 in Peosta, Iowa.

Today's DH vs. Loras is the first meeting between the Cardinals and the Duhawks since the 1992 season, when SMU came away with an 11-2 victory.

Loras Duhawks Around The Horn:

The Duhawks are coming off their first Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title in 57 years, as Loras went 15-7 in league play en route to a 25-10 overall mark. … John Schroeder led the Duhawk offense down south, hitting .455 (5-for-11) with a team-best four runs scored an a .545 slugging percentage. … Mike Canebello also hit over .400 in Florida, going 5-for-12 (.417) — with all five hits coming in Loras' 9-7 win over Ripon — while B.J. Juergens, who also put together a five-hit effort against Ripon, led the team in doubles (6) and RBIs (6). … Loras returns virtually its entire pitching staff, anchored by juniors Kyler Laurie, Cole Boge, Kevin Moriarty, and sophomore Austin Safranski. Those four combined for a 22-6 record for the Duhawks a year ago. …  Safranski threw a team-leading 7.1 innings in Florida, scattering six hits, while allowing two earned runs and striking out six. He earned the team's lone win with 6.1 innings of five-hit ball vs. Saint Joseph's College of Maine, while compiling a 2.45 earned-run average.
