NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Despite playing strong for 90 minutes, the Saint Mary's University women's soccer team could not defeat a formidable opponent in the Carleton Knights, falling by a 2-0 score on Saturday afternoon.
Carleton, who won the conference title last year and has advanced to the national tournament for the past two postseasons, scored a goal in each half.
Amy Sibik (Onalaska, Wis.) led SMU's offensive effort with three shots on goal. Keeper
Cassie Hulett (Milwaukee, Wis.) finished with eight saves.
Saint Mary's falls to 3-4-0 after Saturday's loss. Their next contest will be on Sunday at home against nonconference opponent Simpson College at 1 p.m.
"Despite the results, I thought we played well," said SMU coach Eric Zimmerman. "This really was our most complete game of the year; we just couldn't put the ball in the goal."
