ST. JOSEPH, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's soccer team found out first-hand why Saint Benedict is sitting atop the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference standings, as the league-leading Blazers dealt the Cardinals a 2-0 setback Saturday afternoon.

The Cardinals kept the high-powered Blazer offense off the board for most of the opening half, but CSB finally broke through in the game's 27th minute, as Sami Meyman hit Colleen Bouchard in stride, and the sophomore forward laced a shot that beat SMU goalkeeper Miranda Halling (Rochester, Minn.) for the lone goal of the first half.

CSB — which locked up its 15th consecutive 10-win season and has clinched its 23rd straight winning season — continued to pressure Halling and the SMU defense in the second half, putting six shots on the Cardinal goal. Jessica Pellegrene, who had a goal waved off earlier in the day on an offside's call, made it 2-0 in the 74th minute off an assist from Laura Kosch.

Halling finished with seven saves in her sixth straight start for the Cardinals, who fall to 1-8-0 in the MIAC and 3-12-0 overall.

The Cardinals are back in action on Wednesday, traveling to Macalester for their final road game of the season. Game time in St. Paul, Minn., is slated for 7:30 p.m.
