PHOENIX, Ariz. — The Saint Mary's University baseball team kicks off its season at the Russ Matt Invitational. SMU will play nine games in seven days, beginning Sunday against Concordia University-Chicago.

Cardinals vs. Spring Trip Field:
Concordia-Chicago is the only team on SMU's spring trip schedule that the Cardinals have previously faced. SMU and CUC squared off most recently in 2010, with the Cougars winning 4-2, and the Cardinals returning the favor with a 10-1 victory. Both games were played in Dallas, Texas.

Holtz led the team in hits (62), runs (47), home runs (4), on-base percentage (.517), and slugging percentage (.648). … The Sabres return eight of their top 10 hitters from a year ago, when they hit .328 as a team. … Marian collected 415 hits in 2010, including 105 for extra bases — 80 doubles, 12 triples and 13 home runs. … Marian returns starters at every position except right field, where freshman Garrett Dorn will look to step in. … Jesse Blum struck out a team-high 37 batters in 2010, while also leading the team in innings pitched (45.0) and games started (8). … Marian scored 10 or more runs 11 times, going 7-4.
