Complete All-MIAC Baseball Team
WINONA, Minn. — The roster may say he's just a freshman, but
Luke Larson (Bloomington, Minn.) played like a seasoned veteran for the Saint Mary's University baseball team in 2011.
And Monday, Larson was rewarded for his efforts, being named to the All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference First Team.
Larson, one of just three freshmen on the 27-man squad, started all 20 conference game — including 14 games at third base and the other six at shortstop — while also boasting team highs in virtually every offensive category.
In conference play, Larson hit a team-best .368 (21-for-57) with two doubles, five runs scored, eight RBIs, 23 total bases and a .404 slugging percentage. He also walked twice, was hit twice and owned a .410 on-base percentage. Larson finished the season with a six-game conference hitting streak and had at least one hit in 14 of the team's 20 MIAC games.
St. Thomas' Tayler Rahm was named the Max Molock Most Valuable Player, while St. Olaf's Ben Hughes earned the Mike Augustin Pitcher of the Year honor. J.D. Dorgan of St. Thomas was voted Rookie of the Year and Macalester's Matt Parrington, who guided the Scots to a share of the conference's regular-season title, was selected as the Jim Dimick Coach of the Year.
As part of the conference-wide sportsmanship initiative, the MIAC also announced the fifth annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship team for baseball, which included SMU senior
