WINONA, Minn. — Saint Mary's University baseball coach
Nick Winecke thought he'd seen it all in his time as the Cardinals head coach — rainouts, snowouts, games postponed or cancelled due to poor field conditions.
But Tuesday, Winecke was thrown a curveball, as the Cardinals' nonconference doubleheader at Viterbo was cancelled — because of a lack of umpires.
"Everybody is so backed up, because of the weather, there just aren't any umpires available," said Winecke, whose team will not make up the nonconference twinbill.
SMU is back in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Coinference play on Wednesday, hosting Bethel in a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader at Max Molock Field. Wednesday will also be Senior Day, as the Cardinals honor their eight graduating seniors.
