The Cardinals closed out their home schedule with a split against Bethel on Wednesday at Max Molock Field, as SMU opened with a come-from-behind,
5-4, eight-inning win, while the Royals bounced back to earn a split with an
8-3 win in Game 2. … St. Thomas, meanwhile, swept its MIAC doubleheader at league-leading Macalester Wednesday, beating the Scots
7-5 and
16-6 in St. Paul, Minn.
Last Meeting —
April 27, 2010:
SMU pitcher
Brett Ferschweiler retired the first 13 batters he faced, while allowing just one-hit in going the distance against the high-powered Tommies at Max Molock Field. Unfortunately, as dominating as Ferschweiler was, three errors proved to be the Cardinals' downfall, as UST scored three unearned runs — one in the fifth and two in the sixth — in beating SMU
3-0. The Tommies' high-powered offense wasn't about to be shut down in back-to-back games, however, as UST erupted for 21 Game 2 hits in handing the Cardinals a
14-1 setback.
Up Next:
Today's doubleheader is the season finale for the Cardinals, while St. Thomas is one of the four conference teams that will take part in the MIAC Tournament next weekend at Veterans Field in Minnetonka, Minn.
