WINONA, Minn. — For the second time in less than a week, the Saint Mary's University women's soccer team found themselves in a game decided by a 1-0 score.

And, unfortunately for SMU and first-year head coach Neil Cassidy, the Cardinals were on the wrong end of that outcome, as Bethel converted a first-half penalty kick en route to a 1-0 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory Saturday afternoon at Ochrymowycz Field.

“We didn't play poorly, but I didn't think we played as well as we did (Wednesday against UW-La Crosse),” said Cassidy. “We have to change our mind-set a bit. I hate to use the word 'win,' but we need to find a way to do just that — win.”

The Royals' Carrie Kishaba accounted for the game's only goal, as the Royal senior beat SMU goalkeeper Miranda Halling (Rochester, Minn.) on a penalty kick in the game's 24th minute.

Halling finished with four saves in her third straight of the season, while Bethel goalkeeper Alyssa Riggs stopped Kelsey Schneider's (Portland, Ore.) first-half shot en route to her second shutout of the season.

“We are doing a pretty good job defensively,” Cassidy said. “But offensively, we just aren't generating enough offensive chances.”

The Cardinals (0-3-0 MIAC, 1-7-0 overall) are back in action on Wednesday, traveling to St. Peter, Minn., for a 4 p.m. conference game against Gustavus.
