MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — For the second and third time in the last three days, there was late-inning heroics at the Metrodome Tuesday evening.

Unfortunately for the Saint Mary's University baseball team — unlike Sunday's, 14-inning, 1-0 victory over UW-Oshkoh — it was Luther providing the late-inning magic Tuesday evening.

The Norse rallied from a 1-0 deficit with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning in beating SMU 2-1 in the opener, then erupted for four runs in the top of the seventh inning of the nightcap, erasing a 5-2 Cardinal lead to complete the sweep with a 6-5 victory.

The Cardinals scored their only run in the fifth inning of the opener, as Mike Feriancek (River Falls, Wis.) delivered a two-out, RBI single to score Matt Tessmer (West St. Paul, Minn.) from second.

The lead would be short-lived, however, as Luther answered with both of its runs in the bottom of the sixth to collect the nonconference win.

Tessmer accounted for two of the Cardinals' four hits in the opener, while Danny Geraghty (Chicago, Ill.) and Feriancek accounted for the other two.

Matt Biagini (Bloomington, Minn.) went the first three innings for the Cardinals, scattering four hits, while not allowing a run and striking out three. Pat Regan () suffered the pitching loss in relief, allowing two runs on two hits.

After scoring just one run in back-to-back games, the Cardinals' offense came to life in Game 2, scoring twice in the second and three times in the third to take a 5-2 lead. Feriancek and Paul LaNasa (Mahtomedi, Minn.) delivered RBIs in the second, while Kevin Gannon's (Roselle, Ill.) double and Kyle Servais' (Coon Valley, Wis.) two-run single sparked the Cardinals' three-run third.

Luther's offense, limited to just three hits in the first six innings, came to life in the seventh, as the Norse parlayed three hits and a Cardinal error into four runs to take the lead for good.

Gannon and Curt Swanson (Woodbury, Minn.) each had two hits to fuel SMU's nine-hit Game 2 offensive attack.

The Cardinals (8-7 overall) kick off Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday, hosting Bethel in a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Max Molock Field.
