PHOENIX, Ariz. — Saint Mary's University baseball coach Nick Winecke wasn't about to call Friday's 14-9 nonconference win over Albright a work of art, but, as the Cardinal coach put it, “a win is a win.”

“It wasn't the prettiest performance we had this year, but fortunately our offense bailed us out a bit,” said Winecke. “We swung the bats pretty well today, but we weren't quite as good in the other areas.”

The Cardinals, who scored a season-high 14 runs in beating Albright, got a 3-for-6 performance from Vince Lulic (Mendota Heights, Minn.), who banged out a pair of doubles among his three hits, while also driving in three runs. Teddy VanRanst (St. Paul, Minn.) was 2-for-2 with a two RBIs and a pair of walks, while Danny Geraghty (Chicago, Ill.) was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

The Cardinals, who won their second straight in improving to 5-3 overall, close out their spring trip on Saturday, squaring off against Lewis & Clark in a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. CST.
