The Cardinals bounced back from a 5-1 Game 1 setback to beat Saint John's 9-4 in the nightcap and earn a conference split with the second-place Johnnies Saturday at Max Molock Field. … Macalester, meanwhile, was held to just one run in its conference doubleheader against Concordia in Moorhead, Minn., Saturday, as the Cobbers dealt the Scots 4-0 and 3-1 setbacks.

SMU vs. Macalester — Their Last Meeting:
April 30, 2011: Heading into the bottom of the fifth inning of Game 1, the Cardinals boasted a 2-1 advantage against Macalester in St. Paul, Minn. By the time SMU starter Andrew Ruf (Chippewa Falls, Wis.) got Andrew Gardner to ground out to second, however, the Scots had scored three times — erasing the Cardinals' one-run lead and propelling Macalester to a 5-3 Game 1 victory. It was the three-run inning — two of them, to be exact — that did in the Cardinals in the nightcap, as Macalester scored three times in the first and three more in the fourth in completing the sweep with a 7-3 win.

Despite their 5-1 Game 1 loss to Saint John's last Saturday — which snapped SMU's four-game winning streak — the Cardinals enter Tuesday's showdown at Macalester having won five of their last six. … The Cardinals' 9-4 win over Saint John's on Saturday was their 16th win of the season — their highest win total since finishing 17-14 in 2005. … SMU was held to four hits — three singles and Pat Krieger's (Mendota Heights, Minn.) first-inning double — in the opener vs. Saint John's Saturday. The Cardinals scored their nine Game 2 runs vs. SJU on nine hits, including two each from Kevin Gannon (Roselle, Ill.) and Matt Tessmer (West St. Paul, Minn.). … Jon Schlemmer (De Pere, Wis.) — coming off a two-homer, five-RBI performance in SMU's 11-8 Game 1 win over St. Olaf last Wednesday — drove in three more runs in Game 2 vs. the Johnnies Saturday. … The Cardinals launched three home runs in their 11-8 win over St. Olaf in the opener last Wednesday — two by Schlemmer and the other by Tessmer. Tuesday's doubleheader is the final regular-season home date for the Scots, who close out the season with road DHs at Carleton and Saint John's. The Scots are 8-2 on their home turf this season. … Macalester's 4-0, 3-1 losses to Concordia Saturday pushed the Scots' losing streak to five straight. The Scots' current slide marks the first time this season Macalester has lost more than two games in a row. … Four of the five games in the Scots' current five-game slide have been decided by two runs or less — including 3-1 losses in the second game of both doubleheaders against St. Thomas and Concordia. … The Scots were held to just three hits in the opener — including doubles by Ross Bronfenbrenner and Jimmy Belfont — while Graham Brown went 2-for-4 to spark Macalester's seven-hit Game 2 attack. … Robert Williams enters Tuesday's doubleheader against Saint Mary's boasting a team-best .411 batting average.
