NORTHFIELD, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University men's and women's cross country teams are back in action on Saturday, taking part in the St. Olaf Invitational.

The Cardinals' Last Action:
The SMU men kicked off their season in impressive fashion, as Peter Borash (Bowlus, Minn.) and Aaron Haley (Plainview, Minn.) grabbed the top two spots and Jake Traxler (Le Center, Minn.) and John Soucheray (Woodbury, Minn.) finished fourth and fifth, as the Cardinals earned first-place honors in the SMU Alumni Open on Sept. 1. … Katie Stolz (Forest Lake, Minn.) led the way for the Cardinal women at the SMU Alumni Open, touring the 5-kilometer course in 21:48 to finish 18th overall and lead the team to a third-place finish.

St. Olaf Invitational A Year Ago:
September 17, 2011: The Cardinals, fueled by the experience of David Feather (Oak Creek, Wis.) and Peter Borash (Bowlus, Minn.), placed fifth in the 14-team St. Olaf Invitational. The SMU women, meanwhile, settled for a 14th-place showing among the 16 teams competing.

The Cardinals return home on Sept. 28, hosting their second meet of the season — the SMU No-Limit Invitational.

Peter Borash (Bowlus, Minn.) cruised the four-mile course in 21:16 to take home individual honors at the SMU Alumni Open on Sept. 1. … The win was the first collegiate individual title for Borash — who was named MIAC Cross Country Athlete of the Week for his effort. … Aaron Haley (Plainview, Minn.) was right on Borash's heels at the SMU Alumni Open, finishing in 21.18. … Jake Traxler (Le Center, Minn.) — who was named SMU's 2011-2012 Outstanding Scholar Athlete at the Cardinal M Club Awards Ceremony on Sept. 7 — clocked a time of 22:08 for fourth at the SMU Alumni Open, while John Soucheray (Woodbury, Minn.) stopped the clock in 22:18 to finish fifth. … Katie Stolz (Forest Lake, Minn.) led the way for the Cardinal women at the SMU Alumni Open, touring the 5-kilometer course in 21:48 to finish 18th overall. … Beth Scott (Rochester, Minn.) was the second Cardinal to cross the finish line, clocking a time of 22:19, while Allie Thiel (Burr Ridge, Ill. / 22:32), Katherine Mockler (Dubuque, Iowa / 22:38) and Kristen Thelen (Rochester, Minn. / 22:59) rounded out SMU's top five.
