WINONA, Minn. — Loras walked onto Ochrymowycz Field Wednesday boasting a No. 16 ranking in the latest national poll.

And the Saint Mary's University women's soccer team learned first-hand what that national ranking meant — the Duhawks were good, very good.

Loras scored five goals in the game's opening 45 minutes and the Cardinals never recovered, as the Duhawks dealt SMU a 6-3 nonconference setback.

The Duhawks took command early, scoring three goals in the game's opening 13 minutes, as Katie Truesdale, Lynn DeVriese and Danielle Vujovic all found the back of the net to give Loras a 3-0 lead.

Allish Rispin and Truesdale pushed that advantage to 5-0 with back-to-back goals five minutes apart midway through the half, before SMU's Bethany Schmidt (Sparta, Wis.) finally broke through for the Cardinals to make it 5-1 at the break.

Emma Schaefer (Falcon Heights, Minn.) and Heidi Martin (Ankeny, Iowa) sandwiched their first collegiate goals around a goal by the Duhawks' Kristen Eckert late in the second half to round out the scoring.

Aubrie Cornell (Holts Summit, Mo.) stopped a collegiate-best 11 shots in goal for the Cardinals, who are back in action on Sunday, as SMU returns to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a 1 p.m. contest against St. Catherine at Ochrymowycz Field.
