STEVENS POINT, Wis. — The Saint Mary's University men's and women's track and field teams hit the road on Saturday, traveling to UW-Stevens Point to take part in the Pointers' Eastbay Invitational.

February 8, 2013: Gabe Thiel (Elgin, Minn.) and Colin Sheehan (Austin, Minn.) led 1-2-3 finishes in the 600 and 1,000 to pace the Cardinal men, while Laura Schommer (Hutchinson, Minn.) placed second in the 400, and Clare Siska (Rochester, Minn.), Katie Stolz (Forest Lake, Minn.) and Coco Booker (St. Paul, Minn.) added third-place finishes to highlight the SMU women's performance in the non-team-scored Cardinal Open last Friday at the Gostomski Fieldhouse..

February 4, 2012: In a meet filled with top-notch talent, SMU had some athletes turn in some top-notch performances of their own. Led by the performances of Coco Booker (St. Paul, Minn.), Bethany Schmidt (Sparta, Wis.) and Kassondra Burtis (Fairmont, Minn.), the SMU women placed ninth, while the Cardinal men, behind the efforts of Jake Traxler (Le Center, Minn.) and Aaron Haley (Plainview, Minn.), recorded a 13th-place team finish.

The Cardinals are back on the road on Friday, heading to Northfield, Minn., to take part in the St. Olaf Qualifier — the final competition before the MIAC Indoor Championships on March 1-2.

Aaron Haley (Plainview, Minn.) shattered the school record in the 5,000 by two seconds at the St. Thomas Invitational last Friday, stopping the clock in 15:30.64. … John Soucheray (Woodbury, Minn.) and Jake Traxler (Le Center, Minn.) also took part in the UST Invite, posting the third- and fourth-best all-time 5K times, posting marks of 15:39 and 15:40, respectively. … Gabe Thiel (Elgin, Minn.) and Colin Sheehan (Austin, Minn.) led 1-2-3 finishes in the 600 and 1,000 at last Friday's Cardinal Open. Thiel clocked a time of 1:31.0 to win the 600, with Andrew Merkert (St. Paul, Minn. / 1:34.33) and Phil Emmerich (Mondovi, Minn. / 1:42.14) close behind, while Sheehan stopped the clock in 2:49.09 in winning the 1,000, followed by Andy Meyer (Tucson, Ariz. / 2:55.19) and David Lunzer (3:14.72). … Bryan Ortman chipped in a third in the triple jump (12.75 meters), Gus Wiggert (La Crosse, Wis.) added a sixth in the shot put (12.11 meters) and Colin Hennessy (Cedar Rapids, Minn.) was seventh in weight throw (12.18 meters). … Laura Schommer (Hutchinson, Minn.) placed second in the 400, and Clare Siska (Rochester, Minn.), Katie Stolz (Forest Lake, Minn.) and Coco Booker (St. Paul, Minn.) added third-place finishes to highlight the SMU women's performance at last Friday's Cardinal Open. … Schommer posted a time of 1:02.56 to finish second in the 400,  while Siska stopped the clock in 3:22.14 to place third in the 1,000. Stolz recorded a 5:28.75 for her third in the mile, and Booker uncorked a throw of 11.88 meters in finishing third in the shot put. … The Cardinal women dominated the 1,000, getting the third from Siska, while also placing fifth (Beth Scott (Rochester, Minn. / 3:25.78), sixth (Mary Hayes (Chicago, Ill. / 3:29.71), seventh Jocelyn Moreno (3:36.41) and eighth (Jessica Burns (Chanhassen, Minn. / 3:37.15). … Allie Thiel (Burr Ridge, Ill.) chipped in a fifth in mile (5:41.93), while Amy Spitzmueller (New Brighton, Minn.) and Sarah Fanning added sixth-place finishes in the mile (5:44.38) and long jump (4.83 meters), respectively.
