WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University men's and women's track and field teams are back in action this weekend, with the Cardinal men heading to the St. Thomas Invitational in St. Paul, Minn., on Friday, while the SMU women will take part in the Winona State Invitational on Saturday.

SMU kicked off its outdoor season in style at the Winona State Last-Minute Invitational. Peter Borash (Bowlus, Minn.) won the 800 to pace the Cardinal men, while Amy Spitzmueller's (New Brighton, Minn.) third-place effort in the 3,000 steeplechase led the way for the SMU women at the non-team scored event at Paul Giel Field | Recap

The Cardinals are back in action next Friday, as they head to La Crosse, Wis., to take part in the UW-La Crosse Jim Drews/Tori Neubauer Invitationals.

Coco Booker (St. Paul, Minn.) and sister Maya Booker led the way for the Cardinal women at last week's at the outdoor season-opening UW-La Crosse Invitational last weekend. Coco placed second in the shot put (11.45 meters), while Maya was fifth in the hammer throw (41.56). … Clare Siska (Rochester, Minn.) was seventh and Beth Scott (Rochester, Minn.) was eighth in the 1,500 (5:35.72 and 5:27.86, respectively) in their outdoor-openers, while Sarah Fanning was 10th in the triple jump (9.30 meters). … On the men's side, Bryan Ortman picked up a second-place finish in the triple jump at UW-La Crosse, uncorking a leap of 12.62 meters in his first collegiate outdoor meet. … Jed McGlasson (Kenai, Alaska) and Collin Sheehan (Austin, Minn.) were sixth in the 400 hurdles (57.39) and 800 (2:08.49), respectively, with Gus Wiggert (La Crosse, Wis.) adding an eighth in the hammer throw (40.06) and Peter Borash (Bowlus, Minn.) adding a 20th in the 1,500 (4:06.23).
