NORTHFIELD, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University men's golf team hits the road for one final dual meet before the season-ending Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships, as the Cardinals square off against Carleton Sunday at Willingers Golf Course.

Blake Westerberg (Red Wing, Minn.) followed up an opening-round 79 with a six-over-par 78 Sunday, but the Blackberry Ridge Country Club got the better of the rest of the Saint Mary's University men's golf team, as the Cardinals settled for a 21st-place finish at the Saint John's Fall Invitational.

Sunday's dual is the final "tune-up," before the Cardinals take part in the 54-hole, regular season-ending Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships Oct. 4-5-6 at Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids, Minn.

With his rounds of 79-78 at last weekend's Saint John's Fall Invitational, Blake Westerberg (Red Wing, Minn.) has now carded six straight rounds below 80. … Westerberg leads the Cardinals with a 78.17 scoring average, while Tim Wolford (Maple Grove, Minn.) — who notched a 78 during the opening round of last week's SJU tournament — is second on the team with a 79.33 average. … Wolford has now carded an opening-round 78 in each of the team's last two tournaments. …  Wolford carded the Cardinals' low round of the season at the SMU Open on Sept. 5, carding a three-over-par 75 at Cedar Valley GC to finish second individually. … Westerberg put together a season-best 77 — twice — to shoot 154 and place 15th at the Augsburg Invitational last weekend. … Connor Brandt (Woodbury, Minn.) carded a collegiate-best 77 during the Cardinals' season-opening dual against Macalester on Aug. 30. … SMU has now posted 12 rounds in the 70s through the first four weeks of the season. … The Cardinals fired a season-low 319 at the SMU Open on Sept. 5 — it was the lowest team score since carding a 316 at the Wartburg Spring Invitational in April, 2010.
