WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's soccer team could not find a way to get its offense on track Saturday afternoon.
And, unfortunately for the Cardinals, visiting Carleton had its offense shifted into high gear.
The Knights took advantage of an early own goal, then scored four of their own — one in the first half and three more in the second — in handing SMU a 5-0 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference setback at Ochrymowycz Field.
Carleton got on the board in the sixth minute — with an assist from the Cardinals — as Bailey Ulbricht lifted a shot over goalkeeper
Aubrie Cornell to give the Knights a 1-0 advantage.
Arielle Koshkin would make it 2-0 before the half ended, and Catie Williams, Megan King and Erin Wilson all found the back of the net with their first goals of the season over the game's final 45 minutes to ice the victory.
Cornell finished with five saves in goal for the Cardinals, while Carleton goalkeepers Mikayla Coulombe and Elaine Sundberg combined on a two-save shutout.
The Cardinals are back in action on Wednesday, when they step out of conference play for a 5 p.m. matchup against Luther at Ochrymowycz Field.
