EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — After dominating the men's race in both of the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota cross country team's home meets over the past three weeks,
Aaron Haley got to toe the line against some of the best teams in the Midwest Friday at the UW-Eau Claire Invitational.
And the Cardinal senior did not disappoint.
Haley turned in a 26th-place effort, clocking an 8K time of 26:04 to pace the Cardinals to a 14th-place showing in the 25-team field.
And it wasn't just Haley and the Saint Mary's men making noise Friday, as he Cardinal women, fueled by the effort of
Katie Stolz, posted a 19th-place showing.
"It was a good day for us," said coach
Ward Berndt. "The women turned in one of their top Eau Claire team performances since I've been here. And Aaron and the rest of the men's team were solid as well."
Jovan Newsum was the second to Haley for the Cardinal men, stopping the clock in 26:25.
Austin O'Hare (27:41),
Jase Pater (27:46) and
Sherman Moga (27:52) rounded out Saint Mary's to five.
Stolz led the way for the Cardinal women, recording a 6K time of 24:07.
Allie Thiel and
Clare Siska added times of 25:07 and 25:09, respectively, with
Bridget Hayes (25:30) and Mary JHayes (26:01) completing Saint Mary's top five.
The Cardinals are back in action, and back on the road, on Oct. 18, when Saint Mary's heads to La Crosse, Wis., to take part in the UW-La Crosse Jim Drews/Tori Neubauer Invitational.
