MIAC All-MIAC Release

WINONA, Minn. — The memorable inaugural seasons for Saint Mary's University of Minnesota men's soccer players Chris Trussel (Wenatchee, Wash.) and Chris Beiersdorf (Arlington Heights, Ill.) got even more memorable Thursday afternoon.
 
Trussel and Beiersdorf—who stepped onto the scene to become two of the Cardinals' top offensive threats this season—were named honorable-mention All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the league office announced.

Trussel, who appeared in all 18 games for Saint Mary's—which finished 6-9-3 overall—shared the team lead in goals with four, while adding three assists for a team-best 11 points. The freshman midfielder recorded his first collegiate goal in his first collegiate game, before scoring three more times in Saint Mary's final nine contests.
 
Like Trussel, Beiersdorf hit the ground running his freshman season, scoring three times—including his first collegiate two-goal game against Martin Luther on Oct. 21—and added a pair of assists to close out his first year in a Cardinal uniform with eight points.
 
Carleton's Branden McGarrity was named the MIAC Player of the Year, while Macalester coach Gregg Olson earned MIAC Coach of the Year honors.
 
As part of the conference-wide sportsmanship initiative, the MIAC also announced the ninth annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship team for men's soccer, which included Saint Mary's Cody Balogh (Batavia, Ill.)
