Women MIAC Championships — A Year Ago:Men: St. Thomas won its 30th-consecutive Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field championship in Collegeville, Minn. The Tommies—who have claimed the MIAC title at each of the 30 indoor track and field championships in MIAC history—finished with a total of 186 points, and won by 60 points over the rest of the field. St. Olaf continued an impressive performance in the distance events with another meet record and a runner-up finish with 126 points. Hamline also reached triple digits on the scoreboard, joining the top three with a total of 115.5. The host school—Saint John's—finished fourth with 79 points, and Bethel rounded out the top five with 69.5 points. Gustavus wasn't far behind the Royals in sixth with a total of 63.5 points. Carleton took seventh with 48.5 points and Concordia (35.5) edged Augsburg (32) for eighth. Macalester finished ninth with 22.5 points and Saint Mary's finished out the final standings with two points |
Complete RecapWomen: St. Thomas pulled away to claim its 15th-straight Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships crown in Collegeville, Minn. The Tommies used a pair of second-day first-place finishes and a host of other all-conference (top-three) performances to run its winning point total up to 185. Saint Benedict - which co-hosted with the Johnnies - was the runner-up with 122 points and Carleton came in third as the only other team to reach triple digits with 110 points. St. Olaf scored 72 to finish fourth, edging out Hamline just four points, as the Pipers also joined the top five with a total of 68 points. Bethel scored 57 to finish sixth, and the next three spots were separated by just two points. Gustavus was in seventh with 39, Augsburg had 38 and Macalester had 37. Concordia had a great day in the field and finished just three points behind the Scots at 34 to round out the top 10, and St. Catherine (16) and Saint Mary's (two) completed the final standings.
