MIAC Baseball Athletes of WeekWINONA, Minn. —
Jacob Dawson (Oakdale, Minn.) kicked off his season in impressive fashion, as the junior right-handed did not allow a run and scattered just three hits in helping the Saint Mary's baseball team to a 9-2, Game 2 victory over Milwaukee School of Engineering on March 1.
And as dominant as Dawson was in that season-opening start, however, he was even better in start No. 2 against Loras four days later.
Dawson tossed his first collegiate complete-game, blanking the Duhawks on three hits in leading the Cardinals to a 1-0 victory.
That effort against the Duhawks not only turned more than a few heads—it also earned Dawson Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week honors.
Dawson has now thrown a team-high 12 scoreless innings in winning both of his starts during Saint Mary's 10-game spring trip. He walked three and struck out eight in helping the Cardinals to an 8-2 record—their best start to the season since going 10-2 to open the 1995 season.
The Cardinals head to Wheaton, Ill., on March 20-21, for three nonconference games. Saint Mary's will face Buena Vista (11 a.m.) and Wheaton (5 p.m.) on March 20, before squaring off against Aurora on March 21 at 11 a.m.
