ST. CLOUD, Minn. — Saint Mary's University of Minnesota's
Brett Jackson (Edmonton, Alberta), coming off a four-over-par 36-hole showing at the Winona State Triangular last weekend—including an opening-round one-over 72—picked up right where he left off in the opening round of the Saint John's Spring Invitational Saturday afternoon.
Jackson recorded his second-straight one-over-par opening round, carding a 73 at the Territory Golf Course in leading the Cardinals men's golf team to a 14
th-place showing in the 19-team field.
Along with Jackson's one-over 72, the Cardinals also got a four-over 76 from
Kyle Brodt (Roseville Minn.).
Owen Blakely (Elmhurst, Ill.) chipped in an 80, followed by
David Iten (Plymouth, Minn.) with an 81 and
Hunter Rau (Plainview, Minn.) with an 86.
The Cardinals finished the opening round of the 54-hole tournament with a 310 team scoring. Gustavus leads the tournament with a four-under 284, four shots better than host Saint John's, with UW-Eau Claire (289), Bethel (294), and St. Thomas (297) rounding out the top five.
Andrew Krasaway is the individual leader, shooting a seven-under 65 to lead Minnesota's Matt Rachey by three shots. Ryan Gallagher of Saint John's (70), Macalester's Jack Buan (71), and Saint John's Sam Olson (70) also finished the opening round under par.
Round 2 of the 54-hole tournament begins with an 8:15 a.m. shotgun start Sunday morning at the par-71 Monticello C.C., followed by the third and final round (another shotgun), weather permitting.
